Every 2nd Thursday of the month at 6:00pm, join us in the Member’s Lounge as professionals from the fields of health, fitness, or medicine present the most recent knowledge in their area of expertise. Wellness Seminars are free to members and the public.

6:00pm – Sickness, Wellness, and Fitness: Ask a Physician

Do have a question on how sickness can effect your fitness, or how to stay healthy through the winter months? Bring your questions for Dr. Marc Estes, M.D., a physician from IU Arnett Health, and find out what you need to do to keep your wellness high this season.

6:30pm – How to Pick Your Personal Trainer

Looking to gain assistance in your fitness, and ensure you reach your fitness goals this year? Join Lucas Woody, Director of Fitness, as he gives you methods to choose the ideal Personal Trainer to help you reach your goals this year.

6:00pm – Vision Loss as We Age

Macular degeneration occurs as we age, and can cause varying degrees of vision loss. Dr. Loretta Piggott visits Club NewTone to talk about this problem, including wet and dry types, the causes, risks and preventative measures, and what type of doctor is best to help.

6:30pm – Heart Health Awareness

Learn the warning signs of a heart attack or stroke this month as Megan Moriarty, Registered Nurse at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health teaches us about Heart Health Awareness. Megan will help you understand your personal risk of these heart maladies, as well as ways to prevent and treat the conditions.

6:00pm – What to eat When

Did you know that combining cooked broccoli with mustard helps you better absorb the nutrients in broccoli? Nationally Certified Personal Trainer Amanda Stoller gives us advice on how to maximize the nutritional value of the food we eat by pairing certain foods together. Also, you’ll learn how to time your meals appropriately with your body’s needs throughout the day.

6:30pm – World Kidney Day

March 13th is World Kidney Day, and to celebrate, we want to teach how to care for yours. Amy Allspaw, Clinical Nurse Specialist and Certified Nephrology Nurse from IU Arnett, will be telling us about kidney disease, the warning signs, who is susceptible, and how to reduce risk.

April 10th, 2014

6:00pm – Fix Your Feet: Common Adult Foot Problems

Dr. William Oliver, D.P.M. from Greater Lafayette Foot Care, speaks to us on the most common foot ailments of active adults, and ways to prevent and/or remedy these problems.

6:30pm – The “E” Pill for Chronic Disease

Most people are quick to lean on medications as a remedy for disease, but pills at most will only mask symptoms. Kariel Hoagland, Club NewTone Certified Personal Trainer and Athletic Trainer for Lafayette Rehabilitation Services, teaches us about the latest research on exercise to fight chronic diseases (obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease) and how to apply it to your current regimen.
